Gum infection or periodontal disease is caused by plaque formed from bacteria in the month this causes the gum to be irritated and inflamed. When periodontal disease is allowed to progress allowing the gum infection to spread below the gums it affects the tissues and the bones that support the teeth and may even spread through the other parts of the body entering the blood stream causing cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.
A periodontal surgery is needed to prevent gum infection from spreading and to improve dental condition. Gums that have been damaged are restored with periodontal surgery.
